Section: Additional People and Entities

This section lets you add people or organizations outside of your immediate family who may be important to your estate plan. This might include trusted individuals, charities, or professional organizations.

Why we ask about additional people and entities

Estate plans often involve people or organizations beyond close family members (children, parents and siblings). For example, you might want to name someone you trust to make decisions for you, leave a gift to a friend or charity, appoint a professional or institution to serve in a fiduciary role, or make arrangements for the care of a pet.

Providing this information helps us think through these possibilities with you and ensure your documents reflect your intentions clearly. If this section doesn’t apply to your situation, it’s perfectly fine to leave it blank. If you would like to learn more about different fiduciary roles and how to choose a fiduciary, take a look at this article.

Additional people

“Additional people” are individuals who are not part of your immediate family, but who may play a role in your estate plan. This can include close friends, long-term companions, caregivers, trusted advisors, or anyone you might want to consider as an agent, executor, trustee, or guardian.

Adding someone here does not mean they will automatically receive assets or be given authority. It simply allows us to understand who you may want to consider so we can discuss options and prepare documents that accurately reflect your wishes.

Additional entities

“Entities” are organizations rather than individuals. Common examples include charitable organizations, foundations, nonprofits, or banks and trust companies you may want to serve in a fiduciary role. Including an entity here does not commit you to making a gift or appointment. It simply ensures we are aware of the organizations that may be relevant to your planning.

If you would like to include an organization but don’t know all of the details, add what you know for now. We can help confirm correct legal names and other details later as part of the review process.

Pets and personal property

You can use this section to enter the names of people or organizations you think you might want to receive a pet or specific items of personal property, such as jewelry, artwork, or family heirlooms.

At this stage, you only need to enter the person or entity information. You do not need to describe the items, make final decisions, or explain your wishes here. We will discuss details and context later as part of the planning process.

How this information is used

The information you provide here helps us avoid confusion caused by similar names, correctly identify organizations, and prepare documents that account for all relevant people and entities. It also allows us to discuss options and contingencies thoughtfully with you.

Nothing entered in this section locks in a decision. Roles, gifts, and responsibilities are discussed with you and finalized later.
